Dare I say it? I never used to be a fan of mince pies!
I find some shop bought mince pies can taste quite strongly of alcohol and I personally don’t like the taste.
Homemade mincemeat, however and I’m there!
My Nan and I have made this mincemeat a few times over the years. We normally make a big batch as the mincemeat lasts years and just gets better with age. The mincemeat tastes so fresh and citrus. I just love it and I think it makes the very best mince pies.
Here is the recipe so you can try it too…
I N G R E D I E N T S
225g Suet
350g Grated Apple
200g Chopped Dates
900g Mixed Fruit
250g Currants
2tsp Mixed Spice
2 Lemons (Zest and Juice)
115g Dark Muscovado Sugar
225g Golden Caster Sugar
This recipe makes enough mixture for 6 Jars.
I N S T R U C T I O N S
- Add all the ingredients to a bowl and stir them together.
- Spoon the mincemeat mixture into jars.
- Can be enjoyed straight away but best left to mature for 2 weeks
The Mincemeat can be stored in a cool dark cupboard for years, I have kept it for up to 3!
You can take a look at a Homemade Mincemeat Recipe Video Starring Rosalie and Nanna on my Youtube Channel.
