Newbury Race Course

This weekend we were treated to an evening in a hospitality box at Newbury Race Course. We had a lovely evening. It was great to spend some time with Nick’s Family. It’s probably the last time we’ll see everyone before the wedding, eeeeekk!

We arrived at about 4 pm. On arrival we were greeted with a glass of champers or 3! Yes please, thank you very much. This was shortly followed by Afternoon Tea. Now this is where the problems started… It was buffet style. We had a selection of sandwiches; egg mayonnaise, Smoked Salmon, cheese and pickle and cucumber sandwiches. They then brought out the cakes, THIS is where it got dangerous. We had mini victoria sponges and french fancies. Now I’ve lost count of how many mini victoria sponges I ate, but I think it was about 5! Oops! I paid for it later.

The races started at 6.30pm. Our horse placed on the first race! Woop woop! It looked set to be a good night.

Dinner was served at 7pm. We had a course between each race. It fitted in perfectly with the racing and was really well planned. We would  just  finish a course, watch the next race and then it would be time to sit down for the next course. We had crayfish and salmon salad to start, Lamb for main, Summer fruits jelly with shortbread and clotted cream for dessert followed by a cheese board. I had to bow out of the last course. This was most upsetting as I love cheese. I think it had something to do with all those Victoria sponges :-s Nick had the cheese and he said it was amazing. He has been trying to hunt down the specific cheese he had ever since!

After the meal Rita Ora performed. She was really good and I enjoyed having a dance on our balcony. The perfect end to a brilliant day.

We had a really lovely time. This was for a special occasion but if you ever get the opportunity to go, it really is a fabulous thing to do. We had a few winners and came back with nearly double what we originally put on. Good times!! It all helps with a wedding to pay for.
