A few days ago we were invited to visit the newly refurbished The Red Lion, Bar and Eatery, in Oxford.
Now, many years ago, this was a haunt of mine and I spent many a Saturday night there. After hearing about the unbelievable transformation I couldn’t wait to visit.
We were first shown to the gin bar. They had a wide variety of gin’s, mixers and garnishes that you could help yourselves to. We had lots of fun personalising our drinks and soon took our seats in the bar area.
The decor of the place is beautiful. It reminds me of a Glam gentleman’s club. Lots of gorgeous wall paper, sumptuous velvet and cosy little seating areas hidden away.
After finishing our drinks we were shown to our table in the main restaurant. The table dressing was equally as stunning. We eagerly took our seats and set about perusing the menu and making our dinner choices.
The menu was fabulous. We had such a hard time narrowing down a starter choice we ordered a selection. The starters were all divine but our favourites were the calamari and octopus with chorizo.
For main we settled on steak. Nick shared the chateaubriand with our friend whilst I chose the filet steak. Both were beautifully cooked and we really enjoyed our mains.
For dessert Nick opted for a mini pud and cocktail. This is such a fabulous way to finish the evening. Nick had an Espresso Martini and Plum crumble whilst I chose the creme brûlée.
We had a fabulous evening. The staff were so knowledgeable and attentive. It created the most wonderful atmosphere and left a lasting impression. We will definitely be back!
