5 ways to save money this Christmas

Christmas is expensive. We all want to create the perfect Christmas for our family but that costs money.  Here are 5 ways to save money this Christmas so you can create a magical Christmas for your loved ones without it costing the earth.

1. Write lists

My first tip is to write a list of all the people you need to buy for. You then need to go through your list and set a budget for each person. I try and write my gift list as early as I can.

This means I can add gift ideas to my list as and when I see them. For example, if I’m out and about with Rosalie and she takes a shine to something. Instead of buying it for her there and then I’ll add it to her Christmas list (It’s saved in my notes on my phone). I can then buy it for her as a Christmas gift at a later date.

If I’m really stuck for what to buy I scour my favourite websites and watch gift guides on YouTube for inspiration. If I see things I like, I look at my list and decide who might like it. I will then put it under their name. By writing a list I can keep track of the number of presents each person has so that I don’t go over budget.

2. Start early

Once I’ve decided on my final list for each person I start to buy things and cross them off my list as soon as I can. I like to do this as early as I can so that I don’t have to buy them all at once. As soon as I have earned enough money to buy a particular present, I will buy it and cross it off of my list.

I like to buy my presents online so that I can search for the best possible price for each gift. I use the google shopping feature so I can compare prices for a number of shops in one go.

3. Take advantage of deals

There are so many sales and discount codes on offer at this time of the year you need to take advantage of them! Nearly every brand has a Black Friday sale event if you shop smart that weekend you can pick up some real bargains.

Many shops are running advent campaigns where you get a different discount code or free gift on each day of advent. I picked up an amazing for my mum for £60. It had £299 worth of products in. You were only eligible to buy it at that price if you bought a 50ml Estée Lauder perfume but I was buying that anyway.

4. Enter competitions

The only way to get anything for free is to win it. A great way is to enter competitions to win prizes. It could be a competition to win a particular must have present or maybe some cash to help ease the burden of Christmas shopping. Channel mum are running an amazing competition over on Facebook where you can win £150’s worth of vouchers this Christmas.

5. Use credit card or short term loans

If you are really stuck and you need to buy something last minute you can always buy gifts on credit or get a short term loan. Many shops offer you a discount if you open an account with them at point of purchase so it could save you money. If you pay it off with in the time limit you won’t incur any extra charges. You can also look at getting a credit card that has 0% interest for a specific period. That way if you pay it off within the time period specified you won’t pay any extra.

Christmas is the time of year that money is tight for everyone. I hope you find these 5 ways to save money this Christmas helpful.
