Maeve’s 2 month baby update

Maeve turned 2 months old on 8th of July 2017 but I was away on a hen do. It was the first time I’d left Maeve over night. We then spent the last week on a mini break to Butlins.

 

WEIGHT

I last had Maeve weighed on 30th of June and she weighed 12lb 2 oz. I have a little pudding!

 

 

DAILY

Maeve is now pretty much sleeping through. She wakes for her first feed of the day at around 4.30/5am. I will then feed and wind her and lay her back down in her crib. I don’t change her bum then as I find it wakes her up too much but if she’s wriggled out of her swaddle I’ll reswaddle her. Maeve will then normally go back to sleep in her crib until about 9am. At around 7am Rosalie wakes and comes into our bedroom. I try and get Rosalie to sleep a little longer in our bed if I can but if not I resort to giving her the ipad.

Once Rosalie has had enough, I’ll change Maeve and then we’ll all come down and have breakfast. I will feed Maeve at around 9am.

We have our breakfast in the living room. Rosalie will sit at her little table with her toast whilst I feed Maeve and have a cuddle.

 

 

I then put Maeve in her bouncy chair or Moses basket so I can get on and do some tidying. I’ll clear away the breakfast things, put the dishwasher on and do a load of washing. Once that’s done we all go upstairs to start getting ready. It seems like a military operation these days. I try to get dressed and do my make up first while Rosalie watches a little more ipad and Maeve sits in her bouncy chair. It only takes about 15 mins these days!

I’ll then brush Rosalie’s teeth, get her dressed and do her hair. I get Maeve changed and dressed last as she can sometimes be a little sicky. Once we are all dressed we do whatever activity we have planned for the day. If it’s a nice day we’ll play in the garden or if it’s rainy we’ll do some painting or craft. Maeve’s feeds on average every 3 hours but she will go up to 5 hours if we are out and about and she’s being pushed around in the pram. I am still very much feeding on demand through out the day and it seems to be working.

Rosalie has preschool on a Monday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon from 12.30pm until 3pm. On those days I usually try and feed Maeve before we leave the house at about 12pm, we walk to preschool and if I do that I find that Maeve will sometimes fall asleep in the pram and sleep through until it is time to collect Rosalie. I always like to feed Maeve again just before we go and pick Rosalie up so I know she has been taken care of and so that I am not sat feeding Maeve as soon as Rosalie comes home.

In the afternoon, I will do some kind of activity with Rosalie, we’ll play, draw or do sticker books before its time to cook dinner. Rosalie usually helps with this whilst Maeve sits with us in her high chair. We have to stokke Tripp trap with the newborn attachment which is brilliant as it’s nearly at kitchen unit height. Daddy comes home and we all have dinner together. Maeve sits with us at the table in her High chair.

After dinner, I will tidy up downstairs while Daddy takes Rosalie upstairs for a bath. Once I’ve finished I’ll join them upstairs and feed Maeve on our bed. Some nights I will give Maeve a bath then before going back downstairs.

Maeve will then stay downstairs with us for the evening. I usually try and do some blogging. If Maeve will settle, she doesn’t really settle downstairs and always wants to be held. Daddy usually cuddles Maeve on his chest so I can get on. I think Maeve would benefit from being put down in her crib in the evenings but we haven’t tried it yet as we need to buy a new baby monitor and we are yet to get round to it.

 

 

PLAYTIME

I’ve bought Rosalie’s old play gym down from the loft and I’ve laid Maeve down on it a few times and she seems to like it. She hasn’t been on it for that long to be honest as it’s hard with Rosalie running around. I try to do it when Rosalie is at pre school.

 

 

BEDTIME

We are still putting Maeve to bed at around 10/11pm when Nick and I go to bed. We take Maeve upstairs. I’ll get ready for bed, clean my teeth and take my make up off whilst Nick changes Maevie’s bum, puts her in a fresh sleep suit and swaddles her. I will then feed her for the last time sat on our bed. Once I’ve winded Maeve a little I’ll transfer her to her crib.

 

 

FEEDING

I am still exclusively breast feeding Maeve. I feed her on one side first, wind her and then offer her the other side which she normally takes. Maeve usually takes around 20 minutes to feed.

I am still writing down the time I feed Maeve and which breast I feed from first. Mainly because I keep forgetting how long it’s been since I last fed her and which breast! I then alternate which breast I start with at each feed. She has about 7 feeds a day.

At around 6 weeks my boobs seemed to have adjusted to the amount of milk Maeve needed. As I spent my first night away last week. It all went to pot again and it’s taken about a week for them to adjust but I think we are there now.

 

 

SIZES

Maeve is firmly in her 0-3 month clothing. I also think it’s time I got the box of 3-6 month clothes out of the loft so I can see what we have. Maeve has so many lovely outfits that I’ve stopped putting her in baby grows in the day as otherwise she’ll never get a chance to wear them all. We were gifted so many nice clothes and I also kept all of Rosalie’s clothes. I’m going to be a little more ruthless and only keep the outfits I really love. It’s so hard though. I really struggle throwing out baby clothes! Is anyone else the same?

 

MILESTONES

Holding her head up – Maeve can hold he head up for small periods but she doesn’t do it for long. I think I need to do more tummy time.
Watching – She follows noises and movements and looks at you when you talk to her. She likes watching her big sister.

 

Smiling – Yey, she smiled! I was a little worried she never would but she did it on the 3rd of July.

 

Maevie has definitely settled in. We can’t imagine life without her. Rosalie loves her so much and hasn’t shown any signs of jealousy at all. It seems to be flying by and I’m still so worried I’m not recording enough of it. I’m a little obsessed with memory capturing!
