Channel Mum and Iceland set me the challenge to do a healthy eating grocery haul in an Iceland Store.
Now Iceland isn’t the first place you think of when it comes to healthy food, for a start it is frozen. There is a common misconception that fresh food is better for you. Of course, raw foods are better than processed foods, but if say a vegetable has simply been frozen, it can actually be more nutritionally beneficial to you as it has been preserved at it’s very best. With this in mind I was eager to see what I could find in store.
I was impressed! They had so many mum hacks to make life easier for us mama’s. Frozen smoothie mix in a bag, the only ingredients of which is the fruit, a handy salad selection pack, frozen quinoa and vegetable cous cous, both with zero additives or preservatives, which goes from freezer to bowl in minutes. They also sold lots of fresh vegetables too. I was able to get all the fresh veg I usually buy, even avocados!
I have shopped at my local Iceland in the town where I live in the past and I have found that the selection of products available hasn’t been that great. This time I ventured further a field to an Iceland in a bigger town and they had so much more choice. I would definitely recommend doing this if you are thinking of shopping at Iceland as it meant I was able to get every single item on my shopping list. Something I havn’t been able to do when shopping at Iceland in the past. You’ll find a video of my food shop below where you can check out all the tasty treats I picked up along with my usual weekly meal plan.
Monday – Baked lemon garlic and herb salmon, roasted Mediterranean veg and quinoa
Tuesday – Chicken and Prawn Paella
Wednesday – Nick’s Mum’s house
Thursday – Fajitas
Friday – Steak and sweet potato chips
Saturday – Bang Bang chicken
Sunday – Roast
You can find this week’s Grocery Haul with all the ingredients I’ll be using to make these meals below.
