Pregnancy Update – 5 Weeks

A few days ago I found out I was pregnant. I still can’t quite believe it! After 15 months of Trying to Conceive and 2 miscarriages it’s been a hard slog, an emotional roller coaster. It’s early days, but I am very hopeful. I feel very pregnant this time.

I do feel a little apprehensive about writing these updates, like I’m tempting fate, but I also don’t want this pregnancy to be overshadowed by my previous miscarriages. I only started taking bump pictures at around 20 weeks with Rosalie so I want to record this pregnancy from the very beginning.

It’s an exciting time and I want to enjoy it.

So here we go…

How far along? 5 weeks and 3 days

Baby: Baby is 0.1 inches long and doesn’t weigh anything yet. It’s only the size of a sesame seed. Baby has a tiny two chambered heart which has been beating for a few weeks now.The beginnings of baby’s spinal column and skeletal structures have started to form. Although it still doesn’t look like a baby yet and rather resembles a tad pole.

Maternity clothes: No. Although I am opting to wear the stretchiest clothes in my wardrobe. Last time round I was reluctant to buy maternity clothes as I thought it was a waste but I really want to embrace this pregnancy more. I have been yearning for it for such a long time, some days I thought I’d never be pregnant again so I really want to make the most of it.

Stretch marks: No stretch marks. Although I do need to stock up on some body butter.

Sleep: Since a few days before I found out I was pregnant I have been waking up for a wee every night at 4am. Good bye restful sleep for the next 2 years!

Best moment this week: I found out I was pregnant on Friday morning and then we went to Weymouth for the weekend. It’s been a pretty good week.

Miss anything? Hot baths.

Movement: Every now and then I get a kind of bubbling sensation. I used to think this was womb twinges but I swear I have had them for the past year!

Anything making you queasy or sick? I have started to feel a little nauseous in the evenings.

Gender: We don’t know yet but I can’t wait to find out, we will definitely be finding out as soon as possible.

I really wanted a boy before but I have spent so long wanting this baby. I’d truely be grateful for whatever we have, I never thought I’d say that.

A boy would be easier though because we can’t agree on any more girls names.

Labour signs: No. THANK GOD.

Symptoms: I have a little belly. I had a bit of a belly before so now it’s even bigger! My main symptoms have been getting up in the night to pee, and my boobs getting bigger, Considerably bigger, for me. I have also been feeling a little nauseous. It’s not been too bad yet though.

Belly button in or out? In.

Wedding rings on or off? On. I kept my wedding ring on for my whole pregnancy with Rosalie and I plan to do the same.

Happy or moody most of the time: Happy. I’m really excited and I’m looking forward to really embracing this pregnancy. I just want to get past 12 weeks as I feel I’ll be safe then.

Looking forward to: Getting a scan date. As I have previously been referred to the recurrent miscarriage clinic they have promised me an early scan to help put my mind at ease.

Hi I started reading your blog a few years ago just checking in every now and again but recently I have checked more often. I was so sad to hear about your miscarriages as I suffered one too. I have been waiting and waiting for this update and I am thrilled for you! Congratulations and look after yourself!!

Oh Jenny, Thank you so much for commenting. That is really lovely to hear. I’m so glad you keep coming back! 🙂 I’m so sorry that you too suffered a miscarriage. Thank you so so much. I am trying but it is hard with a toddler to run around after. xxxx
