Rosalie’s 21 Month Update

Rosalie is 21 months old. We spent this month away on holiday, I very nearly forgot to write this update. We had the very best time together and made lots of memories.

Weight: 14kg, 2 stone and 2 lb.

Daily: We are still trying to get back into our daily routine after returning from our holiday. I say routine but no two days are the same in our house.

On Mondays I work from 8.30am until 5pm. Rosalie is looked after by Grandma on this day. Grandma takes Rosalie to Gym Joey in the morning.

Tuesday is our home day. Rosalie and I usually have a lazy morning on the sofa together before I make a start on the housework.

We have lunch anytime between 12 and 2pm depending on what we are doing. I try and get Rosalie to have a proper nap in her cot at some point throughout the day. The time will vary depending on our plans. We have dinner at 5.30pm.

On Wednesdays I work from 8.30am to 3pm. Rosalie is looked after by her Nanny on this day. After work I will catch up on some work for an hour before going to Nanny Tracy’s house for dinner.

On Thursdays I work from 8.30am until 12.30pm. Rosalie is looked after by her Nanny Tracy again, they go to baby ballet together and are usually at home waiting for me when I finish work. We usually do some craft activities or get the play dough out in the afternoon. We have dinner at 5.30pm.

Rosalie goes to bed at 7pm every night. She has a bath and story every other night. On the nights when Rosalie doesn’t have a bath, we come downstairs and watch cbeebies before bed.

Playtime: Rosalie has really developed socially after being away on our cruise holiday. She made her first real friend called Emily-Rose. They would hold hands every day on the boat and giggle away to each other constantly.

We took Rosalie to the open play sessions on board the boat on every sailing day. There would be different toddlers and babies there each session. I think this really helped Rosalie’s social skills as she could play with other children but mummy and daddy were still there with her.

Rosalie is still enjoying cooking in her kitchen, she has picnics with her teddies, and pours out a cup of tea for everyone with her tea set.

Rosalie is enjoying collecting little figures. There was a game in the arcade where a digger would dive in and pick you out a toy. Rosalie loved it and wanted to go and play it every night on holiday. You got a prize nearly every time so she came back with all sorts of treasures!

I took a lot of books on holiday and we read a lot to keep Rosalie occupied whilst we were in our cabin. 

Bedtime: Whilst on the cruise Rosalie slept in a travel cot in our room. I was a little worried about how Rosalie would sleep in this setup but I needn’t have worried as she was absolutely fine. Although Rosalie soon worked out how to climb out of it! Rosalie was going to bed at about 9pm each night on the cruise as we would all have to go to bed together.Now home, Rosalie has gone back to going to bed at 7pm every night. I have found this week that it has taken a long time for Rosalie to fall asleep. I think it is a combination of the lighter evenings and no dummy. She usually sleeps until about 7am.

Sizes: Rosalie wears clothes in size 18 – 24 months. I have stopped buying her clothes now but when I am buying pieces I am getting them in age 2 to 3 years.Rosalie has size 7 feet!

She is still in size 5 nappies.

Milestones:

Teeth – We haven’t had any more teeth this month. Although I think her high teeth are about to break through which is why she is having trouble falling to sleep.

Talking – Rosalie’s speech is amazing. I can ask her questions and she will give me an answer. In the morning, I ask her if she wants toast or cereal for breakfast and she will respond. Today I asked if she want a smoothie and she said ‘yes! Smoo-eee’.I normally give her a choice of two outfits and let her choose what she wants to wear. Yesterday I asked her if she wanted to have lunch out or lunch at home and she chose lunch at home. I am loving being able to talk to her and find out what she wants to do. I find it so fascinating.

I have given up trying to list the words she knows as there are way too many. She repeats everything and is learning all the time.

Potty training – We did a poo on the potty!! Yey!
Rosalie has started to tell you when she needs a poo poo. I quickly whipped her nappy off when she told me and managed to catch one in the potty. I made a big fuss, clapped and cheered and said what a good girl she was. Rosalie was not amused. I think she was mortified. She kept pointing at the poo and saying ‘no!’

Ditching the Dummy – Whilst we were on holiday Rosalie seemed to have her dummy a lot more. We would give it to her to keep her quiet at dinner whilst we were waiting and all of a sudden it seemed to be permanently attached to her. Since returning home we have gone cold turkey on the dummies. It’s been a week now and so far so good. She asked for it a few times at first but I keep telling her we left them on the boat. In the last few days she hasn’t even mentioned a ‘num num’.

I can’t believe how quick you are growing. You seem to know so much. You have grown about a foot since we returned from holiday, the sunshine has made your legs grow so long!

I am loving watching your personality develop and finding out what you like and what you don’t now you can talk more. You make me so happy.
