Style – Spring Pickings

With the sun shining, only a little granted. I started to let my mind wander to summer dressing. Skirts, pretty tops… dare I say it sandals!

I put my usual uniform of leggings and jumpers away and started to think about my spring/summer wardrobe. I joined in with Fat Faces’s Wardrobe Edit. They are encouraging us all to update our look for the spring season by investing in just a couple of key pieces.

Being on maternity leave still I haven’t got much money to be spending on lots of new clothes so this seemed like a great idea. Don’t feel too sorry for me, what I do have is a vast wardrobe already. I headed in to the wardrobe room and I thought hard. I came up with my top 5 spring transitional pieces to get me through this season whilst still being on trend. All these items are pretty versatile and can be styled for both day and night making them even more wearable and ensuring you get your money’s worth.

Boots.
Being british means it ‘aint time to but those boots away just yet. I can just about brave the wind with bare legs and a coat if I have to but open toes?! oh no, the weather needs to be at least 20 degrees before these tootsies are seeing sun light. My boot of choice would be these. I am currently on a spending ban so I dug an old pair out of my wardrobe.

Midi Skirt.
To me, Denim skirts = Summer. Now I’m a mother I feel like I can’t get away with the denim minis of my younger years. This patterned midi skirt* from fat face is perfect. It ticks all this years trend boxes, High waisted, denim, midi as well as being motherly. I teamed it with some tough, chunky, footwear to avoid looking too much like my grandma.

Crop tops.
There are so many in the shops at the moment, cropped tees, sleeveless turtle necks, off the shoulder crops so I’ve  made these a collective. I bought a number of different cropped tops for my honeymoon way back in October 2013. Being pregnant all of last summer meant these stayed firmly tucked away all of last year, nobody wants to see that! Im looking forward to getting them out again this year. I’m not entirely sure they are mother appropriate but I have decided as long as I wear them with high waisted bottoms so only a slither of mum tum is exposed its ok. I hope you agree.

White Shirt.
Broderie Anglais. What can I say? It epitomises summer. My mother is a little bit obsessed with Broderie Anglais and I think I may have inherited it. I can’t wait to dress Rosalie in it. She’ll look so fricking cute! I digress. This shirt*. If your a regular reader you’ll know I’m a fan of the buttoned up shirt. This sleeveless number will be great for when the weather finally heats up.

Mom Jeans.
My top 5 wouldn’t be complete with out the jean of the moment. Whats not to love? They are called Mom jeans for a reason. High waisted to cover the post partum midriff as well as being THE comfiest pair of jeans in the wardrobe. Perfect for days at home. They also have pockets for dummies, toys and other baby paraphernalia that I carry with me at all times. Mine are topshop but pretty much everywhere stocks them these days.
