Welcome to my 27 Week pregnancy update. We have 12 weeks and 6 days left. 1 week until 3rd trimester baby, you’ll be here soon.
How far along? 27 weeks and 1 day
Due date? 7th May 2017
How is baby doing? This week marks the end of the second trimester. Babies born between 27 weeks and 32 weeks have a good chance of survival. 80-95% survive depending on the week of gestation, the mother’s health, the reason for premature labour, and the quality of medical care received. Baby weighs 875 grams and is 14.41 inches long. This week baby girl remains the size of a Papaya.
The Baby is beginning to enter a very active phase in it’s now cramped quarters. The amniotic fluid has decreased, which means I will feel every movement baby makes more than ever before. Baby girl will be practising the sucking reflex in order to prepare for feeding. Baby’s neurones and brain tissue are developing rapidly and the brain waves are working like newborn brain waves. Even though baby’s skeleton is completely developed, the joints are not yet connected. Baby’s immune system, liver and lungs are still continuing to develop and preparing to function on their own. Baby’s tiny eyelids have begun to open and retinas have started to develop.
Maternity clothes: Maternity leggings or tights are an everyday staple now. I have given up trying to find a comfortable pair of maternity jeans that look nice. I think my time for maternity jeans has passed.
Stretch marks: Luckily no stretch marks yet. I am still applying body butter religiously.
Sleep: Sleep wasn’t very good last night. Nick was back in the bed and he was disturbing me.
Best moment this week: The work on the house is moving along and we have started to get quotes for repainting the girl’s bedrooms. We are just waiting to hear back. I’ll be glad we make a start as once that is finished I can get organising.
Miss anything? I miss not being able to do as much as I used to. You forget how physically restricting pregnancy is when your bump gets bigger. I am not able to be as active now and I am starting to waddle when I’m tired!
Movement: I can’t believe movement is supposed to get worse now as the amniotic fluid reduces. This baby is the biggest fidget EVER! Nick is also a fidget and it drives me mad so to have a little wriggly worm inside me is not nice. It is reassuring when I feel her move though so I am enjoying that aspect.
Gender: It’s a Girl.
Labour signs: No
Symptoms: I have an achy vagina! I am guessing it’s an achy uterus to be specific. It’s pretty much been like this whenever I walk for a few weeks now. I have also developed vein-y boobies. I am getting fatter and belly is getting bigger. I am definitely feeling a shortness of breath too.
Anything making you queasy or sick? No.
Belly button in or out? Dare I say it I think it’s out! My belly button stayed in last time round so I think this means I am bigger than before. I also have another 12 weeks to go so I’ll probably be ginormous by the end.
Wedding rings on or off? On.
Happy or moody most of the time: Happy.
How I feel? I feel good. Only one week left and we’ll be in the third trimester which feels like the home stretch. I have a few more weeks at work and then it will be our family baby moon and the start of my maternity leave. By then all the rooms should have been painted inside so I can start to organise the baby’s nursery and Rosalie’s new bedroom. It’s exciting.
Looking forward to: I haven’t got much on this week but I am looking forward to our baby moon in a 6 weeks time. I need to start holiday prepping!
