Pregnancy Update – 20 weeks

Pregnancy update - 20 weeks - roseyhome - pregnancy, pregnant, baby, mummy, parenting, pregnancy after miscarriage, pregnant with baby no.2

As if I am halfway already!! This pregnancy is going so fast. I am determined to try and enjoy it but with work, looking after Rosalie and Christmas I havn’t had a minute to myself and poor little babe. I plan to take maternity leave early so that baby and I can have some time before she arrives!

How far along? 20 weeks and 1 day

Due date? 7th May 2017

How is baby doing? Baby weighs 300 grams and is 10.08 inches long. Looking at the measurements it does kook like baby has grown at lot this week. However the extra growth is not actual growth. It’s simply because until week 19 baby is measured from the top of the head to the bottom. The length of baby’s legs is not included in the first 19 weeks, because they are still curled up and therefor very hard to measure.

At 20 weeks, your baby’s length includes the legs too and now your baby is measured from top of head to the heel. Baby will be developing more regular sleep patterns now and you may become aware of them – especially when most babies get more active at mama’s bedtime!

At this point in baby’s development, most of the energy is utilised in gaining weight. Your baby is no longer the length of a pickle but that of a banana. The placenta has reached it’s maximum thickness and is busy supplying baby with all the nutrients and oxygen and disposing of the wastes. Baby is the size of a Mango.

Maternity clothes: No more maternity clothes purchased but I do need to stock up on some maternity tights. I am living in jumper dresses and tights at the moment.

Stretch marks: No stretch marks yet. I’m still trying to apply body butter every night. I’m still a little lax!

Sleep: I have been sleeping rather well lately, although one night last week I was woken up by a big lump protruding out of my tum. I’ve no idea what it was and it hasn’t happened since.

Best moment this week: It’s 6 sleeps until Christmas! I am looking forward to finishing work on Thursday and doing lots of festive activities.

Miss anything? Not really. If I’m honest I’ve just been eating pate and brie. It is Christmas after all.

Movement: Yes. I am feeling lots of movement inside but you still can’t see anything when you look at my tummy apart from the big kick I had in the middle of the night.

Gender: It’s supposed to be a girl but we had our 20 week scan last Friday and the sonographer didn’t have a clear view of the genital area but said it looked boyish. I said ‘Really?!?!?’ I couldn’t believe it. I still think we are having a girl but it would have been nice to have had it confirmed. We have been referred to the foetal medicine unit for a further scan because the baby had an echogenic bowel so hopefully we will be able to take a peek at the gender again then.

Labour signs: No

Symptoms: Lots of movement. I have noticed that I am starting to get really tired and achy. My boobs seem to be getting humongous already. God knows how big they will be at the end! Bump is getting a lot more noticeable now which is rather lovely.

Anything making you queasy or sick? No sickness. Although I have inadvertently stopped taking my pregnancy vitamins and I must start taking them again.

Belly button in or out? In

Wedding rings on or off? On

Happy or moody most of the time: Happy

How I feel? I am feeling good. I feel the baby moving regularly which is reassuring. We have been referred to the foetal medicine unit because the baby showed to have an echogenic bowel. We were referred to this department when I was pregnant with Rosalie also so I am not too worried. The sonographer also said that the baby looked boyish (?!?!) so hopefully they will confirm baby is a girl at our scan with the FMU.

Looking forward to: getting the date for the scan and assessment with the foetal medicine unit.

Yes! I definitely need some tights. I keep banging on about it but I really need to place an order instead of just putting up with normal tights xx

Don’t always rely on the gender. My SIL was told 4 times a girl and out popped a boy!

So funny that you are convinced one way and then sonographer thinks the other way! I hope you can find out at the next scan and everything else is fine too!

You’re due around the same time as my best friend. I liked the middle of pregnancy as it was easy to get around and generally feeling much better. Saying that I had twins last time round so it was very different to my son!
