What would make our perfect Holiday?
I have been thinking about this a lot lately. We are in the throes of deciding where to go for our family holiday this year. I want to go away just the three of us, something we have never done before. The most important thing has to be that it suits us all.
It sounds simple, right? Yet I am struggling.
There is me, I’m pretty laid back and anywhere with a bit of sun and sightseeing (shopping) would keep me happy. Ideally I’d like to explore somewhere new, somewhere we have never been before.
Daddy works and trains hard all year. This year he won the Olympic Weightlifting English Championship in his weight class, as well as progressing in his engineering career. It’s a lot of work and he has to follow a strict clean eating plan (we all do!) On the day to day, Nick constantly has to watch his weight, and so when he is on holiday, he likes to go all out. Nick will eat what he likes, Calamari and beers all round?
Not forgetting Rosalie, my cheeky, smiley one year old, who just wants to play and spend time with her mummy and daddy. Girl loves her some food. Rosalie may only be 20 months old right now but she eats ALOT! She has such a varied palette and eats everything.
We all have varying ways in which we like to enjoy our holidays, but things that we all want to do are; to spend quality time with each other and to EAT.
We love meal times and they are a big deal for us. We would love to explore different cultures and sample new cuisine abroad. Our perfect holiday would include lots of delicious food that mama doesn’t have to cook.
Rosalie is at the age when life is one big adventure. She has been walking since she was 11 months old so is quite accomplished now. She loves nothing more than running around exploring new places and learning new things. The last time we went to a beach was before Rosalie could walk. I can’t wait to stroll along the beach together, hand in hand, tucking into ice creams as the waves lap at our feet.
Nick is a keen snowboarder, but we have never been on a ski holiday as a family. I know Nick would love the take Rosalie on a holiday to the mountains. She is such a courageous little one, a real dare devil. What fun we would have playing in the snow. When the day is over, we would warm ourselves by sipping rich, hot chocolate, snuggled under blankets, in front of a roaring fire.
After having 2 miscarriages in the last 6 months, we need something to look forward to. We are still planning on adding to our family but I’d like to have a holiday as a family of three where we can really enjoy each other, create memories to cherish and dote on Rosalie like she deserves.
The thing is, with time your perfect holiday changes. Right now, our perfect holiday would be about enjoying our daughter. Whether that be lazing by the pool, skiing down mountains, discovering wonderful new cuisine or enjoying our favourite family foods. It really doesn’t matter. As long as we are together, it WILL be perfect!
