We live in a 3 bedroom house. There is a room for Rosalie, a room for Nick and I, and a guest bedroom/study. We are planning to add to our family in the not to distant future and so the baby will move into our 3rd bedroom. This means no more study!

This might not sound like a big deal, but to me it really is. I NEED a study. We have a lot of paperwork. A four drawer filing cabinet full and this needs somewhere to live. I also blog and I find it so much easier in a designated work space.

We need to make more space in our house, and so I have been looking into how we can create a new room and the office of my dreams.

The plot our house sits on is not very big. The house has been extended previously and has a two storey extension to the side. There is no way we can alter the footprint of the house without eating into our already small garden.

We are lucky in that we have an integral garage. So we have two options, we can either convert that, or go up!

Our garage is used for storage, it houses a few bikes and a lawn mower, it’s wasted space. We converted half of the garage to make a utility room when we first renovated our house two years ago. It would make sense to convert the other half too. The room would be a reasonable size and definitely big enough for a study/playroom. It could easily house a desk, my filing cabinet and a little table and chairs for Rosalie.

However, If I am true to myself, what my heart really desires is a loft conversion. We would gain so much more space. I would love a big, open plan room with VELUX windows to flood the room with light. I’d paint it white. Y’all know how I feel about white interiors.

I’d separate it in to zones. We would have my office area, with my beloved mac, a few select plants and some inspirational prints to keep me motivated. I’d like to display lots of lovely knick-knacks like Kate has done in her study pictured below.

We’d create a wonderful play area for Rosalie. I’d include the little table and chairs and her favourite teepee. There would be so much space up there for her to run around. It would also mean I could get on with some work whilst she plays nearby without having to worry.

There would even be room for a sofa. I’d buy a sofa bed so that we could use it if any guests come to stay. This hasn’t happened in the 4 years we have lived in this house but I’d like to know we have an extra bed if we need it.

The only bad thing about a loft conversion is the disruption. Dust would get everywhere! I’m not sure I can deal with that again.
